Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk of developing these disorders. Through a combination of lecture, video, and small group practice, participants will apply skills based in Motivational Interviewing to the delivery of a four-step Brief Negotiated Interview (BNI). Completion of this 4-hour course allows eligible practitioners to provide, or supervise individuals providing, SBIRT services, billable under Washington Apple Health (Medicaid). This training is funded by the King County Mental Illness and Drug Dependency Plan (MIDD)
