Please join CABHP for this Cultural Intelligence webinar course being held on May 5th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This course is designed to introduce participants to the term Cultural Intelligence, or CQ, which is defined by the Harvard Business Review as the ability to make sense of unfamiliar contexts and then blend in. There are four main core components to this concept; cognitive, physical, and emotional, and motivational. We need to explore our own self and see things through the eyes of others to achieve a higher level of acceptance. Videos and self-reflections will be utilized to encourage participation.  We will be providing the following continuing education: NAADAC, NASW, APA, NBCC & COJET. Registration: $35 per person. Despite the demands that come with a profession in the health and behavioral health care disciplines, providers are dedicated to their craft and enjoy a deep satisfaction from helping others. The other side of the job brings pressures and stress that can increase susceptibility to exhaustion leading to compassion fatigue and other occupational hazards. The consequences of compassion fatigue can decrease the provider’s emotional and physical well-being, influence the quality of care they provide for their clients, and negatively impact the interactions with coworkers and so creating an unhealthy work environment for themselves and others. The current health crisis has had a profound effect on people's ability to cope for both communities and professionals, and the need for healthy providers is critical. This interactive webinar (90 minutes), will identify and define often elusive work related conditions, self-assessment tools, and practical strategies for self-care and building resiliency.

This webinar will address what constitutes an “evidence-based treatment (EBT)” and an “evidence-based practice (EBP),” the difference between efficacy and effectiveness, and what we need to know about them in order to make more informed decisions in selecting EBTs and EBPs that are best suited to our agencies or clinics. Major concepts underlying EBTs will be discussed: 1) treatment integrity/fidelity, 2) external validity/generalizability, 3) operational definitions, and 4) statistically vs. clinically significant results. Factors related to the application of EBTs/EBP to culturally diverse populations will be examined: 1) samples on which EBTs are based, 2) use of ethnic vs. cultural groups, 3) “generic” vs. culturally specific EBTs, 4) cultural content vs. cultural context, 5) advantages and disadvantages of culturally adapted EBT, and 6) sustainability of EBTs/EBP. The webinar will present the contribution of meta-analyses to EBTs, the EBTs in the context of the factors that contribute to change in interventions (e.g., therapy relationship and client contribution), limitations of EBTs, common elements of EBTs, and the role of politics, power, and privilege in the scientific study of treatment outcome. Processual issues critical to moving from EBTs to EBP will be discussed. The webinar will describe alternative approaches to EBTs/EBP, such as those grounded on practice-based evidence and community-based evidence or those considered “promising practices,” and alternative concepts to external validity (generalizability), such as ecological validity and social validity. This is Section 5 of a multi-part series presented in partnership with NAADAC. Presented By: Kris Kelly, BS  |  Jenna Neasbitt, MS, LCDC, MAT-R  |  Aaron M. Laxton, MSW, LMSW To support a successful peer program, effective supervision is essential. Equipping supervisors with knowledge of the day to day functions, including practice boundaries specific to the peer role, will increase job satisfaction and retention, reduce communication breakdowns, and lead to better outcomes for the individuals served. For Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS), supervision typically has two components: administrative and supportive. Administrative supervision works with the needs of the agency (scheduling, benefits, etc.). Supportive supervision provides direct guidance, encouragement, and professional development opportunities. Having a plan in place of who, what, when, and where the supervision will occur will create a supportive and safe environment for peers to do their best, most effective work. Intended Audience:  Organizations and professionals who have or plan to integrate Peer Recovery Specialists into their team.
